Greetings to everyone,
I am Jedi Padawan Cody Dalton, and I have come to encourage knowledge concerning Jediism. I was reading a topic earlier which was the only thing I could find that you had here on Jedi, and I was quite disappointed at the way it was being told of. I came here originally because I do at some point in the future, wish to be a minister of Jediism. For now, I am here to help educate those who are curious about Jediism and those who follow it.
First off, let me say that George Lucas did not create Jediism, he took philosophies and belief systems and put them under one type of people called the Jedi. These Jedi are featured in the Star Wars films. Jediism was created by society when people realized the enlightened nature of the Jedi and wished to become similar in the real world.
Let's start with the Jedi Code. There is the five lined code and the four lined code.
4 lined:
There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
There is no death, there is the force.
5 lined:
There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
There is no chaos, there is harmony.
There is no death, there is the force.
I use the four lined code because adding the fifth line, it makes the code redundant.
Now I will explain the meaning of the code.
There is no emotion, there is peace.
To an outsider this seems to instruct Jedi to have no emotion and through that action, they will have peace. Well, that is incorrect. This line actually means "Emotion yet peace". Jedi are not asked to have no emotion, in fact, the lack of emotion would not allow a Jedi to be a Jedi. This line of the code asks Jedi to control their emotion to a degree where they can still do what needs to be done. This line does not ask for the Jedi to not have anger, sadness, happiness, and other natural emotions. It asks that you keep them at a balance and don't allow them to rule you. A Jedi with too much anger will not care about anyone or even the greator good, therefore will not be a Jedi at all. A Jedi with too much sadness will be a mess themselves, so how can they help anyone else? A Jedi with too much happiness ignores that there are problems at all, so they cannot do their job. There is no emotion, there is peace means to have control over your emotions, do not let them control you.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
This is very general. If you took this to mean that you must not be ignorant, only knowledgeable, then you would never fulfill this line of the code. This line of the code does not ask a Jedi to never be ignorant and only be knowledgeable, because that is not possible for a human being. For you to fulfill that translation of this line of the code, you would have to know everything. Assuming your not a God, this is impossible. So, if something is asking you of something that is not possible, what do you do? Consider other translations of what this line of the code is saying. This line of the code is asking you to seek knowledge where you find you are ignorant. So, it doesn't ask you to know everything, but it asks you to seek knowledge in what you don't know. No human, not even a Jedi can know everything, but they should aim to know all that they can.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
If this meant that you could have no passion, it would essentially defeat the Jedi immediately. So, it's a good thing that this line of the code does not ask for the absense of passion. This line of the code asks that you have passion, but control it and use it as a tool, do not let it control you and use you as a tool. controled passion leads to serenity, uncontroled passion leads to chaos.
There is no death, there is the force.
It's quite obvious that everyone dies, all of us, it may be tomorrow or 100 years. This line of the code does not ask for or mean no death. This line of the code is teaching a Jedi that death is not the last stage. Death is the end of life on earth, but it is not the end. The code says that there is no death, there is the force. The force remains, even after death. According to Jedi, when a person dies, their spirit lives on in the force. This line of the code is reminding you that even after death, the force remains.
And now the Jedi Creed.
Jedi are the guardians of peace in the galaxy.
Jedi seek peace, so they are the guardians of it. However, they are the protectors of civilization. Why? Because civilization makes peace.
Jedi use their powers to defend and protect, never to attack others.
We are guardians and protectors, not warriors or officers. We do not seek to kill, unless there is no other option. We do not fight in wars, we seek to end them. We use true self defense, not self defense used offensively.
Jedi respect all life, in any form.
We are not supposed to be racist, sexist, prejudice or anything else that discriminates against a particular life form. We respect all life forms for the very fact that they were created by the force as we were. We respect the fact that they live.
Jedi serve others rather than ruling over them, for the good of the galaxy.
Jedi do not want to be worshipped, they do not want to be treated as a higher species. They want it to be known that they are no better and no worse than any other life form. We choose to serve others for the greator good over ruling over them for our selfishness.
Jedi seek to improve themselves through knowledge and training.
We seek to be all that we can be for the purpose of staying alive and being able to do our duties. We care about ourselves because if we didn't, we would have no way of helping anyone else. What use is a person if they can't even help themselves?
Jedi are humble.
Jedi are knowledgeable.
Jedi are wise.
Jedi are open minded, yet stubborn.
Jedi are understanding.
Jedi fight for the greator good.
Jedi have compassion for all.
Jedi respect all.
Jedi do not believe in an eye for an eye.
Jedi do not seek revenge, they seek justice.
Jedi do not hate.
Jedi do not hold grudges.
Jedi are not pessimistic.
etc.

May the Force be with you.
