Dear Minister, Rabbi, Priest and Clergy

An important part of the Universal Life Church Monastery’s mission is to ensure that all of its ministers, priests and rabbi all enjoy the rights and privileges given to members of the clergy as legislated locally or nationally.

For the most part our ordained ministers have no difficulty registering with their local authorities in order to solemnize a marriage for friends or family. However this is not always the case and there are some in positions of authority who seek to deny ULC ministers their legal rights based on personal bias or prejudice. They erroneously assume our ordinations are invalid, charging that the Universal Life Church is not a “real church” or that our ministers and clergy do not have an “active congregation.” Such claims are simply false.

It is important for you to understand that failure of any governmental authority to recognize our minister’s status as a legally ordained member of the clergy is unconstitutional. Should they require additional proof of their ordination or documentation of the ULC Monastery’s legal status, we can furnish the necessary documents. But if you are repeatedly stonewalled, please contact us with the agency and name of the person with whom you spoke. Our legal counsel is on standby for this exact purpose and your rights will be defended. Please keep in mind, we need you to stand up and help us prevent religious bigotry at the doorstep.

Sincerely,

New Mexico makes it simple; you don't even have to register with the state or the county clerk. The position of New Mexico is that as long as the couple have the license issued to them, the state has no interest as to who officiates the wedding.

I love AZ for this reason alone we are easy on everything registration is not required, and the ULC is accepted I have it on the authority of the clerk of the superior court.

Amazing enough this is even the case for Oregon.
