This week, a student at Peninsula High School lit up a joint at the end of his persuasive speech about legalizing marijuana. He quickly ate the paraphernalia, and was sent to the principals office. Subsequently, he was then arrested and sent to jail. Students at the speech are quoted to say the speech was eloquent, well-argued and justified. What grade do you think this rabble-rouser should get?

A 'C' for the speech.... and an 'F' for his illegal actions...... He broke the law! Whether advocates like it or not, his actions merit punishment. As a former addict/alcoholic in recovery for many years, this argument for legalizing pot has gone on for decades. It is not a harmless drug and is, in fact, the very "gateway drug" that started me on the path of self-destruction. I too was an advocate for NORML, but many years and 3 adult children later, I am an opponent of any mind-altering chemicals that are a vexation to ones' Spirit and relationship to our Creator. You know, God also made Poison Ivy, Black Widow spiders, and numerous other deadly things in creation, but you don't go rolling around in them because it's good for you, or simply because God made it. The argument is just as ridiculous now as it was 40+ years ago. But that's just my opinion based on personal experiences......God's Peace.....To`na Wanagi

Lol, that was excellent dear Sister!!! laugh.gif
I don't know what the child deserved as a grade because I did not hear the speech, however, an F is earned
for the drug use.

God's blessings,

I don't care to debate the issue of whether or not marijuana use by the kid was acceptable, clearly it was not and is illegal! However, good for the kid for standing up for what he believes in and believes to be right.

Many of us here in America have known people or perhaps personally had experiences with mind-altering drugs such as Marijuana, and in many cases it is a "gateway drug", however there are many advocates of regulated marijuana usage who believe that there is hope for medicinal uses of the drug; and I believe that they have the right to continue to pursue decriminalizing marijuana usage. Frankly, it has become a large part of our culture, and the War on Drugs should be reviewed by experts, specialists, counselors and families across the nation to determine the appropriate course to take in regards to such regulation. I know of many families who have been torn apart and situations made much worse because of harsh punishment for the crime.

There needs to be more education in American schools on the subject of drug use and abuse. I personally believe that there is a distinction that does need to be made, and children at an appropriate age need to know the ENTIRE story. The pros, the cons and everything in between.

This same thought process should be applied to a lot of things. What some consider recreational and harmless, others condemn due to either negative personal experiences, abuse etc..

hmm, Sounds to me as if they failed to prove he had the drug on him. This said they only have the word of those present that he had the joint and lit it up. This said I wonder if he was at least smart enough to be smoking cat nip which is not an illegal drug and would make his arrest an illegal violation of his rights. OK so I doubt he is that smart.

That and don't knock pot. If eaten in small doses it is very healthy for you. Admittedly smoking it negates many of the health benefits. Abusing substances whether pot or table salt is never a good idea; but in moderation these are both good for many things. I have a friend that is medicated for what ever they are now calling gross hyper active tendencies (ADD?) using the plant as a base for his medication. I recently had my wife who is pregnant and told to avoid salt (like they tell everyone now) and her cognitive function and balance was off and she was dizzy and water was only making it worse... she had some very salty snack food and was much better before we made it to the hospital a couple hours drive away (beach road trip). My sister in law had the same problem after giving birth to her youngest and they hospitalized her before they realized that she needed salt and that was the reason that she had gone off the deep end psycho nuts and was chasing people with a knife before she passed out and they strapped her to the gurney.

A- for the paper and f+ for the stunt combined grade C and a weeks in school suspension on active detention in the cafeteria washing the floors and anything else the lunch ladies need cleaned.

....

This counter argument is moot because poison ivy, black widows. and other deadly things serve no positive use other than to get rid of annoying pests.
Also I find this annoying because I appear to be immune to the effects of some of the poison ivy and poison oak plants and have been in patches of such in shorts and tank tops only to have someone yelling at me from the edge of the patch to tell me what it was, they got that rash I didn't; still no intention of rolling in it just to be sure now.

Just like cocaine has some uses in medicine and is frequently prescribed in one form or another, marijuana also has uses both in doctors care and other uses try hemp it is great for rope and many other textile uses and can be made to be softer and stronger than cotton.

I still think he needs detention in the cafeteria with the lunch ladies. It served me well when I got it.
